The original reference (1966 article by Raferty and Cole) to the
modification of Cys to S-aminoethylcysteine for cleavage with trypsin
(albeit slower than Lys or Arg) can be found in J. Biol. Chem. 241,3457-
3461. Pierce sells a reagent ("Aminoethyl-8", product #23010) which can
be used in a one-step aminoethylation of cysteines at pH 8.1-8.6. The
reagent is 2-iodoethyltrifluoroacetamide; the trifluoroacetyl group is
hydrolyzed during the alkylation of the sulfydryl group.
