Dear Gail: I have been operating the Procise-494 for the last 6 years or so.
Have not had any major problems that could not be fixed. It has proved to be
robust and easy to use and maintain. (we do carry the full alpha contract). The
technical help is outstanding and the service response excellent for the most
part. I have to analyze all sorts of samples, from the high end (>2000
picomoles) to the low end <1 to 2 picomoles without real difficulties. I
certainly would buy this instrument again. To be fair, I have never used an HP
(either HPLCs or Sequencers) so I do not have any idea of their performance and
reliability. All the ABRF surveys also do not find any major discrepencies
between these makes. I have not really pushed the lower limits on the 494, but I
have been able to read signal in the sub-picomole range. You can contact me
directly if you want to do so, regards, Gautam
