Biochemist/Protein Mass Spectrometrist - SmithKline Beecham
An opportunity has arisen to join the Mass Spectrometry section within the
Department of Computational & Structural Sciences at SmithKline Beecham
Pharmaceuticals, a part of Discovery Chemistry & Platform Technologies. Our
state-of-the-art research facility is located in Harlow, England, ca. 25
miles to the north of London. The group is part of a multidisciplinary
department charged with the development and evaluation of novel
technologies and with the support of both Discovery Chemistry and Biology.
The position will be within the biological mass spectrometry area of the
group. The primary responsibility will be the development and application
of proteomics-related technologies for the identification of
disease-related proteins.
The ideal applicant has a PhD in Protein Chemistry/Analytical Biochemistry
combined with 1+ year's additional experience of modern mass spectrometric
methods such as ESI-MS and/or MALDI-MS as applied to peptides/proteins. A
candidate with a sound background in 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis will
be preferred. Expertise in other areas of analytical biochemistry,
possibly including N- or C-terminal protein microsequencing and amino acid
analysis, as well as a good working knowledge of general chromatographic
techniques will be an asset.
