To the MALD/I jocks,
A customer sent me (he said) a 30 mer he sunthesized for MALD/I
analysis. The general structure is below:

KGGKGGKGGKGGKGGKGGKGGKGGKGGKGG give or take a couple of KGG units.
Each lysine is linked to a monosaccharide. Mass should be 6200-7500 da.

I observed no peaks when I used alpha-cyano-4-hydroxy-cinnamic
acid. We used dihydroxybenzoic acid a couple of years ago on some
polysaccharides, so I tried it on the sample. I did observe peaks, but
they were small, around 2000 da. I am not up on my MALD/I for
carbohydrates or glycoproteins. Is there a MW cut-off for dihydroxybenzoic
acid? Could that be why I observed no peaks around 6-7 kd (assuming he
sent me what he said...)? Should I expect any adducts? A literature
reference would help.
Thanks much,
Bill
