First in response to Nadines question, yes we have used ABI ethyl
acetate with no obvious problems in the past although we usually try and
use the HP stuff on thier sequencer. After this backorder as well as HP's
discontinuation of the sequencer I think we need to rethink where we get
our sequencing chemicals from. Personally I think we will buy mostly ABI
chemicals that are identical to each other for 2 reasons 1) these shortages
will likely continue to increase rather than get better in the near future,
2) the support to ABI will likely help ABI to continue and support their
sequencing systems although the idea of ABi cornering the protein
sequencing chemical market is a concern in itself. Any other ideas in this
matter.
Second, I agree with Ioannis regarding the response to Spam. Such
a response as far as hanging, drawing and quartering, and worse yet
threatening to crash a sight for someone obviously trying to make a living
(although I agree an annoying one) is a little harsh. The use of shall I
say "colorful metaphors" is also inapropriate in this forum. I myself was
born and raised on the streets of New York City and have heard and used my
share of these "colorful metaphors" but I do appreciate and understand that
this bulletin board is not the place for it's usage.
