The PE Biosystems S2B (part # 400854, 450 ml for US$86+shipping) has
been running on our G1005As for several months with no observed problems and
with excellent Lys recoveries. Two things that you will need to do if you
use S2B are:
(1) Argon or nitrogen purge the "stock" S2B bottle after refilling the bottle
on the sequencer. (Remember, you can only use the argon tanks down to 100 psi
on the sequencer, so you can use the leftover "empties" to purge the S2B, run
your loading station, dry your ingels, etc.).
(2) Occasionally (or every time you refill the sequencer) dump the leftover
S2B on the sequencer to avoid the potential accumulation of peroxides in the
bottle.
Hope that helps,
Steve

We have just been told that ethyl acetate reagent from Hewlett Packard will
remain on back order for up to 8 more weeks. We have already been waiting 4
weeks for a backordered shipment.
Does anyone know if another brand of ethyl acetate (ie ABI) could be used
for protein sequencing? Or does anyone know of a source of ethyl acetate
that would be suitable for an HP G1005A protein sequencer? Help!
Thanks
