Dear Lisa,

We have had mixed results with silver staining and mass spec, but in
general if you employ some type of sample clean-up e.g. Zip Tips, you can
obtain reasonable spectra. There is also a new fluorescent stain on the
market - Sypro Ruby. My experience shows it to be as sensitive as silver
staining and much better than Sypro orange. I have tried mass spec from
sypro without sample clean-up and the spectra is not great, but again with
a zip-tip, I got good results. It is manufactured by Molecular Probes and
sold directly by them or Genomic Solutions and Biorad.

Cheers,

Nikki.
