bioinformatics

I have a question for the bioinformatics experts out there. We are
looking for a class of enzymes in mammalian cells that is widely found in
lower organisms, including bacteria, S. cerevisiae, Dictyostelium. What I
have been doing so far is to search various databases with the catalytic
domain protein sequence of the Dictyostelium enzyme since that seems to be
the organism that is highest in the evolutionary ladder. So far I have
been unable to get any significant hits for any mammalian protein or DNA
entry (including ESTs). As I see it there are two possibilities. Either
this class of enzyme does not exist in higher organisms or I am not
searching the right way. Can anybody give advice or point me to an expert
who could help me out?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
