Protein:Preparation of Histones???? help

I have a colleague who is follwoing a Methods in Enzymology, vol 170,
1989 article by Lennox and Cohen on the "Analysis of Histone Subtypes
and Their Modified Forms by Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis"

Does anyone have experience with Histone preparation? She is having
trouble getting bands in her second dimension gel.
