imidazole-Zn stains

A colleague here asked me to post the following. thanks in advance for
any insights you can provide.

We are currently using imidazole-SDS-zinc to detect proteins separated
by SDS-PAGE. However, attempts to detect proteins from 2-D gels with
this reverse stain have failed. It appears that the imidazole-SDS-zinc
complex does not bind very well to the 2-D gel. Any suggestions on how
to stain 2-D gels with imidazole-SDS-zinc?
