Dr. Marjorie Tingle To Receive ABRF Special Lifetime Contribution Award at ABRF 2012 |

Dr. Tingle stepped down from her post as director of the Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG) program on September 2, 2011. Since 1975 Dr. Tingle served in the NIH Division of Research Resources, and then the National Center for Research Resources , until stepping down from her post as director of the Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG) program on September 2, 2011. Developing several innovative programs to promote science education, build research capacity in academic institutions and provide access to technology. Dr. Tingle created the SIG program in 1982 which was of special importance to the shared resource community. She was Director of the SIG program until her retirement, and she also spearheaded initiation of the High-End Instrumentation (HEI) grant program. The SIG program provides advanced laboratory instrumentation for use by multiple investigators at academic institutions. It is the primary source of major instrumentation for NIH-supported investigators across the nation, and has enabled the work of tens of thousands of biomedical researchers over the past three decades. Many ABRF shared resource facilities have acquired and used instruments funded by the NIH SIG program. The SIG program provides advanced laboratory instrumentation for use by multiple investigators at academic institutions. It is the primary source of major instrumentation for NIH-supported investigators across the nation, and has enabled the work of tens of thousands of researchers over the past three decades. Dr. Tingle's leadership led to the development of several innovative programs to promote science education, build research capacity in academic institutions and provide access to technology. Her long and exemplary service to the nation's biomedical research investigators and the shared resource facilities that enable their work is deeply appreciated. Dr. Tingle has been a longtime supporter of the ABRF and its mission, having attended the annual meetings for many years. The ABRF is delighted to announce the creation of a unique award to recognize Dr. Marjorie A. Tingle's special contributions to the mission of the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities through her dedicated service at NIH over more than 36 years. The Special Lifetime Contribution Award will be presented to Dr. Tingle at the 2012 annual meeting in Orlando.
