Travel awards are available to ABRF members who have made outstanding contributions in their institutional core facilities; have developed new biotechnologies with applications in core facilities; and/or have been active in ABRF activities. The award is to be used to offset the cost of attending “ABRF2010: Translating Basic Research with Advances in Biomolecular Technology” to be held in Sacramento, California. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2010.

The award amount is $600 for North American members and $1,000 for all others, and may be used to offset the costs associated with meeting attendance (for example, travel and lodging). A complimentary registration is included as part of the award.

Students or postdoctoral fellows directly associated with the mission of member laboratories may also apply.

Applicants should submit the following:

  1. An application form (see below).
  2. A letter of support from their laboratory director outlining the outstanding attributes of the applicant. If the applicant is a facility director, a letter of support from a senior colleague or head of department must be provided. Letters of support should be emailed to: travelaward@abrf.org.
  3. A description of contributions the applicant has made to their core and what the applicant hopes to gain from attendance.
Please note that applicants must be members of ABRF at the time of their application, and are required to attend the awards session of the meeting in order to accept their award.

The deadline for receipt of applications and letters of support is January 15, 2010.

Those who have received a travel award within the past three years are not eligible. Successful applicants will be notified the last week of January.
